Reston Trails

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 18, 2026

Short version: Reston Trails doesn't collect, send or sell any of your data. The app has no account, no server, no analytics and no ads. What you record stays on your iPhone and Apple Watch.

Location

The app uses your location only while you're recording a walk, and only to work out which paths you've covered. It asks for "While Using the App" permission. Your location is never sent to us or to anyone else.

A walk keeps recording when your screen is locked. iOS shows the location indicator the whole time so you always know when it's on.

Your walks and paths

Walks you record and paths you add in My Paths are stored on your device. If you use the Apple Watch app, your iPhone and watch send these to each other directly using Apple's WatchConnectivity. They don't go through any server we run.

If you delete the app, this data is deleted with it. You can also delete any single walk or path in the app.

Apple Health

With your permission, the Apple Watch app saves your workouts to Apple Health as Outdoor Walk, Run, Hike or Cycling workouts, with their route. It also reads your workout history so those workouts show correctly. Health data is managed by Apple, stays under your control in the Health app, and is never used for advertising or shared with anyone.

Network access

The trail map and places come with the app, so the app doesn't need the internet to work. The only thing that uses the network is the background map from Apple Maps, which Apple provides under its own privacy policy.

Children

The app doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
